Digital Analytics and Optimization – Mastery Reflection Journal

As Digital Analytics and Optimization comes to a close, I would like to reflect on my time in this course. This is the course I was most looking forward to in the certificate program and it did not disappoint in the slightest. During the final month of the Digital Marketing Graduate Certificate I learned about how to decipher and tell a story through analytics.

Digital Analytics and Optimization was unique in a few ways: live sessions and assignment alternatives. The live meetings for this course we’re structured differently than any other course I have completed. We met weekly in a discussion setting, rather than a lecture and assignment overview meeting. It was encouraged to turn on the camera and communicate with the instructor and classmates. This provided a bit of human connection that I think was missing from some of my previous courses. To me, this was especially important because of our current climate of quarantining during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In lieu of completing week 1 and 4 assignments, we were provided the alternative of studying for and completing the Google Analytics Individual Qualification exam. After four weeks of studying, completing discussions, and real world application assignments, I’m proud to say that I am officially certified for the Google Analytics Individual Qualification.

To touch a bit more on the real world applications mentioned above, on of my favorite assignments provided the opportunity to analyze test data and create a portfolio of sorts. The week 3 real world application had me create analytics recommendations for my test study company to implement in their marketing campaign, as if I were presenting this in a final round of the hiring decision. Seeing as the data was not actually from the company, the suggestions may have been misconstrued for the company I chose, but this activity gave me the understanding of how a data set can be used to interpret and create goals for the company to use and improve from.

The experience gained in this course can be used in my career goals of marketing for craft breweries. Now that I have a better understanding of how to interpret and tell a story with the analytical data available, I’ll be able to make recommendations for breweries to improve their online presence and excel both online and face-to-face with customers.
